Gracemont Park

Improvements Coming To Gracemont Park

A generous donation of $7500 has been dedicated for Gracemont Park by an anonymous doner, who suggested it be used as seed money for a Salem Park Improvement Fund (SPIF) grant. SPIF grants provide matching money. Currently, the Faye Wright Neighborhood Association is accepting donations of labor, materials, and cash. These donations — along with the initial $7500 — will be matched dollar for dollar, provided we win the SPIF grant. Money matched for labor donations is about $20 per hour! If you — or someone you know — is interested in pledging time, material, or money, please email us.

Based on what had been pledged so far, it was decided at our October meeting to apply for a matching SPIF grant of $10,000. Later we increased our application amount to $13,500. Grant decisions are made in December and January. Work will start as early as next spring. Suggested improvements include providing water and lighting, plus replacing legacy play equipment. The high slide at the park, showing signs of wear, was disassembled at the end of the summer. The Parks Committee is already shopping for new equipment as we await word on the grant.

There will be much to do this spring. Just a few hours of your time can go a long way toward turning Gracemont Park into a gem. For more information, email us at parks@fayewright.org.

The park's large trees grace beautiful Bradley Drive. Gracemont is a pocket park, meant to serve the surrounding neighborhood. It's just one-third of an acre, with a swing and climbing structure for the children to enjoy, plus a picnic table. The high slide was removed recently and improvements to Gracemont Park are coming!
